Protect-A-Bed®, is the foundation brand of Sleep Corp®, a proudly Australian Owned and Operated company that has been providing a range of sleep solutions for over 40 years. They believe that when you are sleeping well you are living well

What does Sleep Corp® say about their products-
Sleep, like diet and exercise, is one of the key pillars of a healthy life. We spend one-third of our lives in bed, so it’s important that our sleep environment is clean and healthy.  This helps to ensure a better night’s sleep and overall wellbeing

Although we don’t like to talk about it, we all know that mattresses and pillows can yellow over time. Many of us think this is just a normal part of bedding, but it doesn’t have to be. Those stains are often caused by our perspiration (the average person perspires about one litre of fluid a day), shredded skin cells and everyday spills that build up in our mattresses and pillows. All this amounts to food for dust mites whilst also contributing to the growth of mould and bacteria.

The waterproof, whisper quiet, Miracle Layer® on Protect-A-Bed’s range of Mattress and Pillow Protectors, is soft and comfortable and it protects your mattress and pillows from these stains as well as providing peace of mind in the case of bedwetting or incontinence.

It also acts as a protective barrier for you and your family against dust mite allergens, which are everywhere, including bedding, and a known cause and/or trigger of asthma, rhinitis, eczema and allergies.

Most Protect-A-Bed® products also include Fresche® a naturally derived anti-microbial that destroys 99.99% of bacteria and inhibits mould and odour.

How was Protect-A-Bed® founded?
In 1978 Murray McLeod first manufactured the Snugfit® non-waterproof mattress protectors in South Africa, and was joined shortly afterwards in the business by his brother in law David Kaplan.  In 1984 when Murray’s young daughter slept over at David’s house and wet the bed they realised the need for waterproof mattress protection.

Relocating to Australia, this was developed over the years, with Protect-A-Bed’s Miracle Layer® providing both protection against incontinence, everyday stains and allergens, perfected.

Today, the Protect-A-Bed® brand, for Australia and New Zealand remains proudly Australian owned by David, with the majority of products made in a new state-of-the-art facility in Melbourne.

What else does Protect-A-Bed® help with?
One in four Australian’s are incontinent, experiencing bladder or bowel control problems. Many young children naturally also experience bedwetting. Protect-A-Bed’s range of Mattress and Linen Protectors help provide peace of mind while sleeping. Protecting the mattress from any accidents, they can easily be machine washed. Layering two mattress protectors on the bed, or the linen protector over the mattress protector a valuable tip, allowing one to quickly remove the top one if an accident occurs and quickly go back to sleep knowing the mattress is still protected.

By having a Protect-A-Bed Mattress and Pillow Protector you are also helping create a healthy sleep zone keeping your bedding more hygienic.  They keep your mattress and pillows free from unsightly yellowing. This yellowing often caused by perspiration and everyday spills seeps into an unprotected mattress and contributes to the growth of unhealthy mould and bacteria while providing food for dust mites.

What certifications or standards does Protect-A-Bed® follow?
Providing protection against dust mite allergens Protect-A-Bed® products are:

  • Recognised by the National Asthma Council of Australia and the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation of New Zealand’s Sensitive Choice Program.  Look for their blue butterfly on our packaging.
  • Recognised by The Eczema Association of Australasia

Proudly Australian owned and operated, many Protect-A-Bed® products are made in Melbourne and carry the green and gold Australian Made Logo.

Which products in the range are recommended for those with sensitive skin?
For those with sensitive skin, Protect-A-Bed’s Tencel™ Jersey or Jacquard ranges are suggested. Tencel™, when viewed at under a microscope, has a super smooth fibre structure, and is therefore less likely to be irritating to skin.  It also naturally thermoregulates, for a cool and comfortable nights sleep,  moving moisture away from the skin, allowing it to be quickly evaporated. A property that also makes it less favourable for bacterial growth. https://protectabed.com.au/collections/tencel-mattress-protector (External Link)
